Family History

He was the son of William and Sarah Allsop and the brother of Ernest (killed in action 21/3/1918), William, Elsie, Horace (killed in action 8/10/1918) and Gladys Allsop. They lived at 200 Mansfield Road Sutton in Ashfield.

Military History

Private Sampson George Allsop, served with the 4th (Reserve) Battalion Duke of Wellington’s (West Riding Regiment), he died of pneumonia at the military hospital, Cannock Chase on 22nd June 1918. He is buried in Sutton-in-Ashfield Cemetery.

Extra Information

His brother, Private Peter Edward Allsop, enlisted at Mansfield on 9th September 1914, aged 21. Posted to 12th (Pioneer) Battalion Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment, he landed in France on 28th August 1915 and served throughout the war. The former miner was discharged on 27th January 1919, returning to the mines.
