Family History

Albert was born on 25th September 1895 in Lenton, Nottingham, and was the son of Joseph, a coal miner, and Fanny Wilson. Joseph and Fanny had 11 children. However, three died in infancy; the survivors were children Charlotte (b 1886), John Joseph (b 1889), Franklin (b 1893), Albert (b 1895), Arthur (b 1897), Henry A (b 1897) Violet (b 1899), Vivian (b 1899), James (b 1901) and Agnes (b 1903). In 1901 Joseph, Fanny,Charlotte,John James, Franklin, Albert, Henry and Vivian were living at 2 Cloister Square, Abbey Street, Lenton. By 1911 the family had moved to 35 Barnsley Road, Highgate, Rotherham. Joseph and Fanny were living there with seven of their children including Charlotte who is married and known as Charlotte Morgan. She had two children of her own Florry (b 1908) and Lottie May 5 months of age. At the time of his enlistment Albert was residing with his father Joseph at 86 The Crescent, Woodlands, Doncaster.

Military History

Albert enlisted and joined the Royal Navy on 18th January 1915 and served with the Anson Battalion of the Royal Naval Division from 25th October 1915. He went with Anson Battalion to Gallipoli and served with the Battalion until his death on 30th December 1915 from wounds received in action the same day. He is buried in Redoubt Cemetery, Helles, Gallipoli, grave reference I. D.15.
