Family History

Edgar Hall was born in 1897 the son of Frederick a coal miner hewer and Mary Hall née Lakin and the brother of Walter, Bob, Harry, Hilda, Helena and Donald Hall of 37 Crocus Street, East Kirkby . In 1911 they lived at of 44 St John Street East Kirkby. Frederick was born in 1868 in Norfolk, Mary Lakin was born in 1869 at Newbold, married in 1890 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they had 9 children, sadly two died in infancy or early childhood.

Military History

Private Edgar Hall enlisted at Hucknall whilst residing at East Kirkby. He was killed in action on 25th September 1916 having no known grave his name is recorded on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.

Mansfield Reporter, 28 September 1917: ‘Memorial Service. A memorial service was held on Sunday evening at the Primitive Church in memory of Private CB Bowen, Private E Hall, and Gunner Drabble, RGA.
