Arthur Johnson was born in 1890 at Nottingham and was the son of Joseph a lace maker and Annie Johnson of 22 Raleigh Street, Nottingham. His father Joseph was born in 1862 at Nottingham and his mother Annie Parkes was born in 1864 in Gunthorpe, they were married in 1881 their marriage was recorded in the Nottingham registration district, they went on to have the following children all of whom were born in Nottingham, Ada b1885, William b1887,Arthur b1890, Annie b1893, Florence b1895, Emma b1897 and Joseph Henry b1899. In the 1911 census the family are livng at 22 Raleigh Street, Nottingham and are shown as Joseph 49 yrs a lace maker, he is living with his wife Ann 47 yrs and their children, William 24 yrs a bookbinder, Arthur 21 yrs a tobacco hand working in players factory, Annie 18 yrs a cardboard box maker working at players factory, Florence 16 yrs a cardboard box bander working at players factory, Emma 14 yrs a tobacco hand working at players factory and Joseph Henry 12 yrs a scholar. Arthur married his wife Emma Hall they lived at 26, Selhurst St., Hyson Green. Nottingham they had two children, Arthur b1912 and Ivy b1916 Their address in All Saints Church News (January 1919) was 14 Raleigh Street.
Private Arthur Johnson, served with the 9th Battalion Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, he was killed in action on 20th October 1918. He is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial.

Only those who have loved and lost can understand war's bitter cost. – From sorrowing mother, father, brothers, and sisters. “JOHNSON. – In loving memory of our dear brother, Pte. Arthur Johnson, killed in action October 20th, 1918.
