Family History

He was the son of John and Rebecca Collington of Wymeswold Loughborough. He was the brother of Ernest, Edith, Florence, Frederick, Mary and George Collington. He was the husband of Julia Ann (née Turlington) Collington of 40 Mountsorrel Road Quorn Loughborough. He was the father of Rebecca Grace Collington.

Military History

John James Collington attested on 26 February 1904 at Nottingham and was sent to the depot at Derby. He was 18 years 2 months and stood 5 feet four inches. On 7 July he was posted to the 2nd Battalion Sherwood Foresters. In 1908 he was transferred to the army reserve. He was mobilized at Derby on 5 August 1914 and went to France with 'B' company, 1st Battalion on 4 November 1914. On 26 January 1915 John James was taken to 25th Field Ambulance with a compound fracture of the skull and he died of his wounds on 28th. He was buried in Estaires Communal Cemetery and Extension. His personal effects were sent in two lots to John's wife - 15/7/15 - 1 muffler, 1 fork, 1 comb, 1 holdall, 1 spoon, 1 shaving brush, 1 housewife, 2 pairs socks, 1 toothbrush, 1 belt (note - housewife - sewing a repair kit for clothes) 4/8/15 - 1 disc, 7 Xmas cards, 4 letters, 1 time table. His widow was given a pension of 15 shillings a week for herself and one child - 16/8/15
