Herman Chandler Rimes was born in 1897 at Nottingham, he was the son of the late Ernest William a tailor and Julia Rimes née Baumfield, of Nottingham.

His father Ernest William was born in 1868 at Huntingdon, his mother Julia Baumfield was born in 1869 at Nottingham, they were married in 1890 at Nottingham, they went on to have 5 children.

In the 1901 census the family were living at 6 Birkin Avenue, Hyson Green, Nottingham, Ernest Rimes 33 yrs is a tailor, he is living with his wife Julia 32 yrs and their 5 children,

Military history

Private Herman Rimes enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Lenton, he served with the 1/8th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment he was killed in action 4th March 1917, age 20, whilst moving forward to take over old German front line trenches, during which the Germans launched a counter attack.
