John Wallace was born in 1881 at Kirkby in Ashfield, the son of John a grocers carter and Sarah Coupe née Thorpe, of Kirkby in Ashfield,. John Coupe was born in 1843 at Sutton in Ashfield, Sarah Thorpe was born in 1841 at Kirkby in Ashfield. John Wallace married Bertha Binkley in 1901 at Mansfield, they lived on Reform Street, Sutton in Ashfield, they had the following children, John born 1902, Albert b1904, Elsie b1909, Fred b1911 and Sarah b1913 In 1911 the family lived at 33 Low Moor Road East Kirkby.

Military History

Private John Wallace Coupe enlisted on 31st December 1917, he was posted to the Labour Centre, Northern Command, he was discharged from the Army on 5th July 1918 being no longer physically fit for Army Service. He was aged 37 yrs and 6 months and his discharged address was Reform Street, Sutton in Ashfield. He died on 18th July 1918 and is buried at Kingsway (Old) Cemetery, Kirkby in Ashfield. he saw no service overseas.
