Family history

Robert Wilson was born in 1890 at Carlton, he was the son of Alfred a frame work knitter and Hannah Wilson and the brother of William and Ernest Wilson.

His father Alfred was bornin 1862 at Nottingham, his mother Hannah Wilson was born in 1861 at Northampton, they were married C1881 they went on to have 8 children, sadly two were to die in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 34 St Stephen's Road Sneinton Nottingham. Alfred 49 yrs is a frame work knitter, he is living with his wife Hannah 50 yrs and their children, William 27 yrs a soap miller, Robert 21 yrs a joiner and Ernest 17 yrs a frame work knitter.

Robert was the husband of Millicent Elizabeth Smith (born 20th February 1895) they were married in 1916 at Nottingham, they lived at 18 Chandos Street, Netherfield, Nottingham.

Commencing 2nd December 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 13 shillings and 9 pence a week.

Military history

Private Robert Wilson enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 2/5th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was killed in action, 21st March 1918, whilst holding the line near Noreuil, France on the opening day of the German Spring Offensive or (Kaiserschlact)He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Arras Memorial (Bay 7).
