John George Andrews (known as George) was born in 1893 the son of James Sparham a coal miner and Annie Andrews née Davies of 3 Balfour Street, Kirkby in Ashfield. James Sparham was born in 1872 at Dunham, Norfolk, Annie Davies was born in 1876 at Alfreton, married in 1893 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they went on to have 7 children, 1 sadly died in infancy or early childhood, In 1911 the family lived at Askwith Villa, Rosberry Street, Kirkby in Ashfield

Military History

Private George Andrews enlisted at Mansfield whilst residing at Kirkby, he was killed in action on 16th June 1915 and having no know grave his name is commemorated on the Ypres Menin Gate, Momorial, Belgium
