Family History

Henry Heald (junior) known as Harry was born in 1896 at Westwood and was the son of Henry Heald (senior) a railway carter and Mary Heald née Jackson of Albion House, Selston. His father Henry Heald (senior) was born in 1855 at Selston, his mother Mary Jackson was born in 1856 at Kirkby in Ashfield, they were married in 1883 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they went on to have the following children all of whom were born in Westwood, Annie b1884, Florence b186, Lucy b1890, Elsie b1893 and Harry b1896. In the 1911 census the family are living at Main Road, Jacksdale and were shown as Henry 56 yrs a railway carter, he is living with his wife Mary 55 yrs and their son Harry 15 yrs

Military History

Gunner Harry Healed attested on 19th February 1916 at Nottingham, he gave his age as 20 yrs and 232 days, his address was Main Road, Jacksdale, he was a coal miner loader and his next of kin was his father Henry of the same address, he was posted to the reserves. He was mobilised for war on 9th February 1918 and reported to the Royal Field Artillery at Ripon for training. He landed in France on 10th May 1918 and joined his unit in the field on 11th June 1918. He was killed in action on 2nd September 1918 and is buried at Foucaucourt Communal Cemetery
