George was born in 1884 the son of Walter Stephen Roe a slater and Mary Roe née Freeman, of 31 Midland Ave, Nottingham. His father was born in 1854 at Lenton his mother also in 1854 at Pinxton Derbyshire. Married in 1876 at Radford, they had four children. George's siblings were Francis b.1877, Florence b.1880 and Albert b.1881. George married Emma Eliza Murfin (from Mansfield Woodhouse) in 1908 at Nottingham. They had four children all born at Lenton: Stephen Matthew, 31/12/1909 Albert William, 1910, George H 13/06/1913 and Cecil F in 1915. In 1911 they lived at 60 Harley Street Lenton.
George Taylor Roe enlisted at Derby serving initially with the Leicestershire Regiment (5469). He was taken prisoner on 21st March 1918 and died of dysentery at Namur on 28th November 1918 while on his way home. He is buried in Belgrade Cemetery Namur Belgium Grave Reference: 1 C 1
