Family History

Edwin Simpkin was born in 1881 at Nottingham the son of the late John a night soil labourer and Emma Simpkin nee Simpson, of Nottingham. John was born in 1841 at Radford, he died in 1891 aged 49 yrs, Emma Simpson was born in 1840 at Matlock, she died in 1895 aged 54 yrs, married in 1860 at Nottingham they had 6 children. Edwin married Rose Hurt in 1903 in Nottingham, they lied at 40 Court Street, Hyson Green and had the following children, John Edwin born 13th May 1904 , Edmund born 13th September 1909 and Rose born 2nd August 1916. Commencing 4th February 1918 his widow Rose was awarded a pension of 26 shillings and 3 pence a week.

Military History

Private Edwin Simpkin, enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 1/4th Battalion Leicestershire Regiment, he was killed in action on 8th June 1917. Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial.
