Arthur Edward Smith was born in 1899 the son of Thomas a telephone mechanic and Ada Smith née Holt of 6 Brushfield Street Hyson Green Nottingham. Thomas was born in 1873 at Wollaton, Ada Holt was born in 1872 at Nottingham, married on 22nd July 1898 at All Saints Church, Nottingham they went on to have 6 children, Arthur b1899, Thomas b1901, Annie Doris b1903, William Edwin b1906 Lily b1910 and John b1913. In 1911 the family lived at 1 Cropwell Terrace, Hawksley Road, Hyson Green, Nottingham, Thomas is 38 yrs and a telephone mechanic.

Military History
