Family History

He was the son of Edwin and Emily Holmes and the brother of George Frederick, Harold, Gladys Emily, Edith, Minnie and Eleanor Holmes. In 1911 they lived on Sutton Road Huthwaite.

Military History

Charles Edward Holmes enlisted after 1 January 1916. He was killed in action on 26 September 1916 when the battalion took part in a successful attack during the Battle of Thiepval. He has no known grave and commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
