John Pike was born in 1865 at Dublin, the son of of Joseph and Sarah Pike of 29 Alfreton Road, Nottingham, he had 5 brothers and a sister. He married Harriett Bruce (born 17th December 1875 ) on 8th January 1898 at the Nottingham Registrar Office, they lived at 20 Bateman Street, Hyson Green, Nottingham. They had children Ethel Daisy b1898, Harry Victor b1899, John George b1900, Grace Winifred b1904 John Joseph b1907, Ellen Mary b1910, Louis b1911 and Geroge Fred b1914. In 1911 the family were living at 2 Irving Terrace, Birkin Ave, Hyson Green, John 42 yrs is a cleaner at the general post office, he is living with his wife Harriett 39 yrs 5 of their children. John died on 30th July 1921 of Chronic emphysema and liver cirrhosis and is buried at the Nottingham general cemetery.
Lance Corporal John Pike originally enlisted on 15th November 1888 at Leicester, he was 19yrs of age and a plumber, he served with the Leicestershire Regiment in Bermuda, Jamaica, South Africa and Egypt until time served he was discharged on 14th November 1909. He re enlisted into the Army on 5th October 1914, he was now 44 yrs and 317 days old, he was still a plumber. He served on the home front until he was discharged from the Army on 28th February 1919 with Tachycardia. He died on 30th July 1921 and is buried at Nottingham General Cemetery
