Family History

Lucien was born in 1900 in Calais, France and was the son of Lucien a lace maker and Adele Minette of 2A Berridge Road Hyson Green Nottingham. His father Lucien was born in 1867 in St Quentin, France and his mother Adele was born in Calais France, on the 1911 census they state they have been married for 21 yrs C1890 and have had 9 children , 4 of whom died in infancy, their surviving children were :- Julienne b1891 Calais, Lucienne b1893 Calais, Albert b1902 Nottingham and George Minette b1907 Nottingham. In the 1911 census the family are living at 2A Berridge Road Hyson Green Nottingham and are shown as Lucien 44 yrs a lace maker he is living with his wife Adele 46 yrs and his children, Julienne 20 yrs a swiss lace maker, Lucinne 18 yrs a dresser, Lucien 11 yrs a scholar, Albert 9 yrs a scholar and George 4 yrs.

Military History

Private Lucien Minette, enlisted at Nottingham, he was under age (he was only 11 yrs of age in 1911) he served with 1/3rd Battalion London Regiment (Royal Fusiliers), formerly Royal Flying Corps, he was killed in action on 1st September 1918 at 18 yrs of age. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Vis-en-Artois Memorial.

In memoriam published 1st September 1919 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “MINETTE. – In loving memory of my loving son, Pte. L. Minettee, London Regt., of 87 Birkin-avenue, killed 1st Sept., 1918, age 18½. Deeply mourned and sadly missed. – Sorrowful mother, father, brothers, and sisters. “MINETTE. – In loving memory of my dear brother, Pte. L.
