Family History

Wallace Keetley was born in 1895 at Hyson Green and was the son of Alfred a lace maker and Emma Frances P Keetley née Holmes of 3 Vincent Terrace, Randall Street, Hyson Green Nottingham. His father Alfred was born in 1863 at Old Basford and his mother Emma Frances P Holmes was born in 1864 at Bobbersmill, they were married in 1893 at Nottingham and went on to have 6 children, sadly two were to die in infancy or early childhood, there children were Wallace b1895 ,William b1899, Albert b1903 and Alfred Keetley b1906, all were born in Hyson Green. In the 1911 census the family is living at 3 Vincent Terrace, Randal Street, Hyson Green and are shown as Alfred 48 yrs a lace maker, he is living with his wife Emma Frances P 47 yrs and their children Wallace 16 yrs an extract hand, William 12 yrs a scholar, Albert 8 yrs a scholar and Alfred 5 yrs .

Military History

Private Wallace Keetley attested on 19th May 1915 at Nottingham, he gave his age as 20 yrs and 11 months, his address as 3 Vincent Terrace, Randall Street, Hyson Green, Nottingham and his next of kin as his father Alfred of the same address , he stated his occupation was that of a perambulator fitter. He was posted to the reserves and mobilised for war on 27th January 1916 at Derby and posted to the 7th battalion Sherwood Foresters. He landed in France on 27th March 1917 where he served until 10th July 1917 when he was returned to England due to wounds received. He was discharged from the Army on 11th October 1917 due to his wounds and awarded a Silver War Badge number 266414. He died on 14th May 1920 and was buried in the Nottingham General Cemetery
