Family History

Walter Frith was born in 1889 the son of William a general labourer and Elizabeth Frith née Evans of 11 Thornton Terrace Pleasant Row Hyson Green Nottingham.William was born in 1866 at Sheffield, Elizabeth Evans was born in 1866 at Sutton in Ashfield, married in 1887 they went on to have 7 children. In 1911 the family are living at 4 Shirley Terrace, Hyson Green, William is 45 yrs a general labourer, he is living with his wife Elizabeth 45 yrs and 5 of their children. Meanwhile in 1911 Walter has left the family home, his had joined the Army and is in barracks in Hong Kong with his regiment the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry.

Military History

Private Walter Frith, enlisted at Nottingham and served with the 1st Battalion King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. He landed in France on 15th January 1915 and was killed in action on 28th April 1915. Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Menin Gate, Ypres, Belgium.
