Leslie Cooper was born in 1895 at Nottingham, he was the son of John a coal miner and his first wife Clara Robinson of Nottingham.

His father John was born in 1872 at Nottingham, his mother Clara Robinson was born in 1874 at Eastwood, she died in 1905 aged 31 yrs, they were married in 1894 at Nottingham, they went on to have 5 children he was the brother of Frank, Nellie, Grace and Mary Ellen

His father remarried in 1911 at Nottingham to Lucy Spray (born 1885 at Beeston)

In the 1911 census the family were living at 3 Hedson Grove Hyson Green Nottingham, John 39 yrs a coal miner is living with his second wife Lucy 26 yrs and his children, Leslie 16 yrs a hosiery trimmer, Frank 13 yrs, Nellie 11 yrs, Grace 8 yrs and Mary Ellen 3 yrs of age.

Military history

Private Leslie Cooper enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 7th battalion Queens Royal West Surrey Regiment, he was killed in action on 28th June 1916 and is buried at Carnoy Military Cemetery, France.
