Family History

George Peacock was born in 1890 at Normanton and the son of James Martin Peacock a roadman and the late Lucy Eleanor Peacock née Smith they lived at Westhorpe Cottage Southwell Nottinghamshire. His father was born in 1845 at Great Staunton, Huntingdon and his mother Lucy Eleanor Smith was born 1854 at Coddington, they were married in 1886, their marriage was recorded in the Southwell Registration District, Lucy brought a child to the marriage, Alice Smith b1878 Hockerton, they went on to have the following children all born at Southwell, Charles b1888, George b1890, John Crosby b1891, Fanny Belinda b1892 and Susan b1895. His mother Lucy Eleanor died in 1903 aged 49 yrs at Southwell. In the 1911 census the family are living at Westhorpe Cottage, Southwell and are shown as James Martin Peacock 66 yrs a widow and roadman, he is living with his children, George 21 yrs a flour miller, Crosby John 20 yrs a lace threader and Fanny Belinda 19 yrs working at home.

Military History

Private George Peacock enlisted at Rotherham and served with the 2nd battalion York and Lancaster Regiment. He was killed in action on 21st April 1916 and is buried in Essex Farm Cemetery, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.
