Arthur William Marshall

Arthur William Marshall was born in 1880 at Nottingham and was the son of George Henry a brick layers labourer and his first wife the late Sarah Ann Marshall née Guyler of 23 Mount Pleasant, Nottingham. His father George Henry was born in 1857 at Basford, his mother Sarah Ann Guyler was born 1858 and died in 1893 aged 35 yrs, they were married in 1876 their marriage was registered in the Basford Registration district, they went on to have the following children, George Henry b1877, Ann Elizabeth b1878, Arthur William b1881, Percy Herbert b1883, Grace Ellen b1885, Albert Horace b1886, Emma Ethel b1891 all were born in Basford. Following the death of his mother his father remarried in 1898 to Mary Ann Herrett born 1858 Ashover, Derbyshire, their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration district, they went on to have a son Joseph Frederick born 1896 Arthur William married his wife Edith Lacey (born 16th January 1884) in 1905 at Dublin, they lived at 12 Springfield Street, Basford and 37 Wycliffe Street, Basford, they had the following children, Evelyn Edith born 10th July 1905 Limerick, Emma Ethel born 16th May 1907 Dublin, Eileen Ena born 4th August 1910 Mauritius and Elsie Elizabeth born 21st June 1913. In the 1911 census Arthur is living at 82 Bride Street, New Iveagh Trust Buildings Wood Quay, Dublin he is shown as being 31 yrs and an unemployed carpenter, he is living with his wife Edith 26 yrs and their children, Evelyn 5 yrs, Emma 4 yrs and Eileen under one year of age. In the same 1911 census his father is living at 23 Mount Pleasant, Old Basford, Nottingham and is shown as being George Henry 54 years a bricklayers labourer, he is living with his second wife Mary Ann 53 yrs and their son Joseph Frederick 15 yrs a hosiery trimmer. Following Arthur's death his death his widow Edith was awarded a pension of 23 shillings on 23rd May 1915 and was increased to 35 shillings on 1st May 1918.
