Family history

Ernest Alfred Wright was born in 1883 at Nottingham, he was the son of Thomas a shoe repairer and Clara Wright née Hind and the brother of Annie, Thomas, Clara, Agnes, George
In 1901 they lived at 28 Snow Hill Brook Street St Ann's Nottingham.

His father Thomas was born in 1869 at Nottingham, his mother Clara Hird was born in 1871 at Nottingham, they were married in 1887 at Nottingham, they had 10 children, sadly three were to die in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the familing lived at 9 Frederick Terrace Livingstone Street Nottingham Thomas 42 yrs a shoe repairer he is living with his wife Clara 40 yrs and their 7 children.

Ernest Alfred was the husband of Louie Annie Cottie (born 8th July 1884,) whom he married in 1908 they had 4 children, Clara Agnes born 22nd March 1908, Louie born 3rd December 1910, Elsie born 23rd September 1913 and Annie Ruth born 6th June 1917.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 9 Brassey Street Radford, Nottingham Thomas 42 yrs is a shoe reparier, he is living with his wife Louie Annie 26 yrs and their children, Clara Agnes 3 yrs and Louie 4 mnths old.

Commencing 25th February 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 28 shillings and 9 pence a week.

Military history

Private Ernest Alfred Wright enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 17th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was killed in action on 31st July 1917, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ypres Menin Gate memorial.
