George Henry Cawthan (junior) was born in 1880 at Nottingham, he was the son of the late George Henry Cawthan (senior) a leivers lace hand and Phoebe Cawthan née Richards of 3 Brown Street, Blue Bell Hill, Nottingham. George Henry Cawthan (senior) was born in 1856 at Nottingham, he died in 1907 aged 51 yrs, Phoebe Richards was born in 1857 at Carrington, they were married in 1874 at Nottingham, they had 13 children, sadly 3 were to die in infancy or early childhood. George Henry Cawthan (junior) married Edith Williams (born 1882) on 7th April 1901 at St Albans Church, Sneinton, they lived at Clarence Terrace, Clarence Street, Carlton Road, Nottingham, they had 3 children, Ada b1902, Mary Ann b1904 and William Ernest b1907. In the 1911 census his widowed mother is living at 67 Blue Bell Hill, Nottingham, she is shown as Phoebe 54 yrs a net mender and a widow she is living with 6 of her children. In the same 1911 census George Henry Cawthan (junior) is living at 4 Clarence Terrace, Clarence Street, Carlton Road, he is 32 yrs and is a music hall keeper, he is living with his wife Edith 29 yrs a lace hand and their 3 children, Ada 9 yrs, Mary Ann 7 yrs and William Ernest 4 years of age. Comencing 29th November 1915 his widow was awarded a pension of 20 shillings and 6 pence a week.
Private George Henry Cawthorne, . enlisted 6th September 1914 at Nottingham giving his address as 4 Clarence Terrace, Clarence Street, Nottingham, his age was 34 yrs and had had previously military service of 10 yrs with the Robin Hood Rilfes . He went to France 28th February 1915 and was killed in action, 6th April 1915, whilst serving in the trenches near Lindenhoek, Belgium.he is buried at: Lindenhoek Chalet Military Cemetery, Belgium.
