William Ball was born in 1898 he was the adopted son of Lucy Ann Ball In 1911 William is 13 yrs of age, a scholar and adopted son Lucy Ann Ball 84 years a widow, they are living at 33 Westhill Drive, Mansfield, also at the address is William Ball 55 yrs the son of Lucy Ann.
Private William Ball served with the 2/4th battalion York and Lancaster Regiment, he enlisted on 6th June 1916 when he gave his age as 18 years and 145 days, he was killed in action on 23rd January 1918
This man is commemorated in a book of remembrance held by Mansfield District Council.
