The news was contained in a letter from the Officer Commanding, which stated the circumstances of his death. Yesterday the official notification was received, so that the sympathy of everyone one will be extended to the bereaved family in their great trouble. Pte Bird had been in France about three months previous to his death, and he was drafted there after about nine months service in Egypt and a lengthy time in the army.
