Family History

William Schofield was born in 1889 at Gainsborough, he was baptised on 4th July 1891 at Gainsborough, he was the son Enoch a pig dealer and Annie Schofield née Wright of Gainsborough, his father Enoch was born in 1851 at Gringley on the Hill, he died in 1893 at Gainsbough aged 43 yrs, his mother Annie Wright was born in 1851 at Retford, they went on to have 7 children, however it would appear they only got married in 1914 their marriage was recorded in Gainsborough registration district. His mother re married in 1906 at Worksop to George Edward Ogle, born 1849 Kirton in Lindsey a grinder in the 1911 census the family are living at Gringley on the Hill, George Edward Ogle 62 yrs is a grinder, he is living with his wife Annie Ogle 60 yrs and two of her children, Enoch Henry Schofield 29 yrs an iron turner and Arthur Schofield 24 yrs a warehouse clerk. In the same 1911 census William has left the family home, he is living at 203 Scott Street, Langwith, Mansfield, he is 21 yrs a colliery assistant, he is living with Isaac Naylor 63 yrs a coal miner and his family. At the time of Williams death his next of kin is his mother Annie Ogle of Whalley Common, Langwith, Manfield.

Military History

Acting Corporal William Schofield enlisted at Mansfield whilst residing at Langwith, he served with the 2nd battalion Lincolnshire Regiment, he was killed in action on 9th May 1915, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial, Belgium
