Andrew Vickers

Andrew was born in 1890 in Bestwood Colliery and was the son of Thomas an ironworks manager and Sarah Ann Vickers née Cooper of 33 Portland Road Hucknall Torkard Nottinghamshire. His father Thomas was born in 1854 in Langley Mill Derbyshire , his mother Sarah Ann Cooper was born in 1862 in Whitwick, Leicestershire, they were married in 1879 , their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration District, they went on to have 9 children sadly however 2 died in infancy or early childhood prior to 1911 , their children on the 1911 census are Frances Elizabeth b1888 Bestwood Colliery, Andrew b1890 Bestwood Colliery, Jessie born 1894 Bestwood Colliery and Harry b1905 Hucknall. In the 1911 census the family are living at 33 Portland Road, Hucknall Torkard and are shown as Thomas 57 yrs an ironworks clerk, he is living with his wife Sarah Ann 49 yrs and their children Frances Elizabeth 23 yrs a dress maker, Andrew 21 yrs a railway clerk, Jessie 17 yrs no occupation stated, Harry 6 yrs a scholar. His probate was proven at Nottingham on 8th October 1915 and shows him as Andrew Vickers of 90 Portland Road, Hucknall Torkard, Nottingham , corporal in H M Army died 29th August 1915 in Gallipoli, his effects of £52 5 shillings were left to Thomas Vickers ironworks manager (his father)
