Family History

Wilfred Stainforth was born in 1892 at Hucknall and was the son of the late George and Edna Rebbeca Stainforth née Cullen. His father George was born in 1854 he died in 1890 aged 36 yrs and his mother Edna Rebecca Cullin was born in 1860 at Linby, they were married in 1881 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they went on to have the following children, Flora b1886, Wilfred b1892 and Frank b1894 all were born in Hucknall. In the 1911 census the family are living with his married sister Flora Spencer at 13 Annesley Road, Hucknall and are shown as Lewis Spencer 28 yrs a coal miner onsetter, he is living with his wife Flora Spencer 25 yrs and his mother in law Edna Stainforth 52 yrs a widow and brother in law Frank Stainforth 19 yrs a grocers assistant and Frank Stainforth 17 yrs a coal miner corporal. Wilfred,s probate was proven on 19th July 1918 at Nottingham, it shows him as Wilfred Stainforth of 56 Derbyshire Lane, Hucknaal Private in H.M. Army, died on 30th March 118 in France, his effects of £60 14 shillings and 4 pence were left to Flora Spencer wife of Lewis Spencer.

Lance Corporal Wilfred Stainforth enlisted at Hucknall and served with the 1st battalion Grenadier Guards, he was killed in action on 30th March 1918 and is buried at Bucquoy Road, Cemetery, Ficheux , France
