Family History

Arthur Rose was born in 1896 at Whitwick, Leicestershire and was the son of John Thomas a coal miner and Hannah Rose née Hall of 13 Newstead Colliery , Nottinghamshire . His father John Thomas was born in 1869 at Whitwick and his mother Hannah Hall was born in 1867 also in Whitwick, their marriage in 1891 was recorded in the Ashby De La Zouch registration district, they went on to have 3 children all born in Whitwick, George b1892, Arthur b1896 and Thurza b1898. In the 1911 census the family are living at 49 Carlingford Road Hucknall Torkard and are shown as John Thomas 42 yrs a coal miner, he is living with his wife Hannah 43 yrs and their children, George Harry 18 yrs a coal miner Arthur 14 yrs a pony lad at colliery and Thurza 12 yrs.

Military History

Lance Corporal Arthur Rose enlisted at Hucknall, he served with the 9th battalion Royal Fusiliers, he was killed in action on 7th July 1916 and is buried at Ovillers Military Cemetery, Somme, France
