Family History

George Wilford was born in 1891 at Bingham and was the son of Henry a farm labourer and the late Emma Wilford née Upton of New Gate Street, Bingham. His father Henry was born in 1847 at Bingham, his mother Emma Upton was born in 1862 also at Bingham she died in 1905 aged 43 yrs, they were married in 1883 their marriage was recorded in the Nottingham registration district, they went on to have the following children all of whom were born in Bingham, William b1883, Henry b1888, Emma b1889, John b1894 and James b1901. In the 1911 census his widowed father is living at Long Acre, Bingham, he is shown as 65 yrs a farm labourer and widow he is living with his children Emma 21 yrs a house keeper, John 17 yrs a stone mason and James 10 yrs a scholar, In the same 1911 census we find George and his brother Henry living on Long Acre, Bingham, next door to his father and is shown as George Wilford 19 yrs single and a farm labourer he is living with his older brother Henry 23 yrs single and a farm labourer.

Military History

Gunner George Wilford enlisted at Nottingham, he served at No 1 Depot Royal Field Artillery, he died on 22nd January 1915 at Armstrong Hospital, Newcastle Upon Tyne, his body was returned to his family and is buried at Bingham Cemetery.
