Family History

William Bunting was born in 1894 a Thorneywood, Nottingham, he was the son of Edward a plasterer and Mary Ann Bunting née Read of 17 Masons Ave, Thorneywood Nottingham. Edward was born in 1854 at Radford, Mary Ann Read was born in 1856 in Herefordshire, they were married in 1876 at Sheffield, they had 7 children, sadly two were to die in infancy or early childhood. In the 1911 census the family are living at 17 Masons Avenue, Thorneywood, Mary Ann Bunting 55 yrs married is living with 2 of her children, Sarah 21 yrs a lace hand and William 17 yrs a pony driver coal miner. In the same 1911 census we find his father Edward Bunting 55 yrs a plasterer living at 10 Duncombe Street, Nottingham, he is living with his married daughter Mary Ann Stretton and family. William married Maud Frances Wilson (born 14th October 1895) on 14th September 1912 at St Matthias Church, Sneinton, they lived at 4 Ludlow Terrace, Nottingham, and had two children, Doris born 13th February 1913 and William born 21st June 1915, he died on 25th July 1915. Commencing 6th December 1915 his widow was awarded a pension of 15 shillings a week.

Military History

Private William Bunting enlisted on 16th February 1915 at Nottingham, giving his age as 20 yrs and his address as 4 Ludlow Terrece, Dame Agnes Street, he was a collier, he was posted to the 2nd battalion East Yorkshire Regiment and landed in France on 18th March 1915. He was wounded on 6th May a gunshot wound to the spine and died of his wounds on 18th May 1915 at hospital in Boulogne and is buried at Boulogne Eastern Cemetery VIII. D. 19)
