He was the son of John and Clara Abthorpe of Muster Street Bulwell Nottingham. He was the husband of Edith (née Whetton) Abthorpe and the father of John and William Henry Abthorpe. In 1911 they lived with Edith's family at 36 Linden Street Mansfield. Edith married George Boot at Mansfield in 1918 and they lived at 27 Linden Street.

Military History

Private William Abthorpe, served with the 2nd Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment, he was killed in action on 9th May 1915, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial
