Military History

Private Henry Earl Whitehead, enlisted at Mansfield and served with the 2nd Battalion Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment, he died of wounds on 23rd June 1917 (gunshot wound to the head ). He is buried in Longuenesse (St. Omer) Souvenir Cemetery.

Mansfield Chronicle Advertiser: 12/07/1917: Photograph. Pte Henry E Whitehead has died of wounds received on 28/05/1917. He had received a gunshot wound to the head he was recovering but relapsed. His father had arrived on 21/06/1917 just 2 days before Henry passed away. This man is commemorated in a book of remembrance held by Mansfield District Council.
