Family History

He was the son of Henry and Sarah Hyde and the brother of Arthur Hyde. In 1911 they lived at 222 Sneinton Hill Nottingham and later at 72 Sneinton Hill. Joseph's older brother William (2997 Sergeant) served in the 1/5th Battalion Sherwood Foresters and was killed in France on 25 March 1916 (Ecoivers Military Cemetery). The CWGC record notes that Joseph was 'a native of Carlton'.

Joseph is buried in the Knightsbridge Cemetery (grave ref. F.18).

Personal inscription on CWGC headstone: 'Until the day breaks' Poppy cross Carlton Cemetery (November 2018) also commemorates Sergeant William Hyde (2997 Sergeant, 1/5th Bn Sherwood Foresters, KIA France, 25 March 1916).
