John William Morrell was born in 1891 he was the son of the late William a market porter and Anne Morrell née Walker and the brother of Charles, James, Ethel and Anne Morrell. William was born in 1871 and died in 1913 he was 42 yrs of age, Annie Elizabeth Walker was born in 1873 at Nottingham, they were married on 20th September 1890 at St Pauls Church, Nottingham, they went on to have 5 children. In 1911 the family lived at 10, Virginia Street, Sneinton Nottingham. William is 40 yrs and a market porter he is living with his wife Annie Elizabeth 38 yrs and their 5 children including John William 20 yrs a collier John William married Edith Carlisle (born 28th August 1892) on 15th June 1911 Edith brought a child to the marriage Charles Green Carlisle born 17th January 1903, they lived at 71 Manvers Street, Sneinton. Commencing 18th December 1916 his widow was awarded a pension of 15 shillings a week. He was the husband of Edith (née Carlisle) Morrell who married Frank Kirk in the winter of 1916. They lived at 11, Martha Terrace, Goodhead Street, Wilford Road, Nottingham.

Military History

Private John William Morrell enlisted in the Meadows, Nottingham, he served with the 17th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He was killed in action on 3rd June 1916 and is buried at Le Touret Military Cemetery Richebourg-L'Avoue, Grave Reference: III G 11
