Family History

John William Whitworth was born in 1895 at Sherwood, he was the son of William Henry a brick burner and Harriett Whitworth née Lee of Church Street, Ruddington. William Henry was born in 1864 at Nottingham, Harriett Lee was born in 1872 also at Nottingham, they were married in 1895 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they went on to have 6 children. In the 1911 census the family are living at Church Street, Ruddington, William Henry is 47 yrs a brick burner he is living with his wife 39 yrs and their children, John William 15 yrs a hairdresser, Elizabeth 15 yrs, Sarah Ann 12 yrs, Alfred Thomas 7 yrs, Ruth 11 yrs, Harold Edward 4 years of age.

Military History

Private John William Whitworth enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 2nd battalion King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, he was killed in action on 11th October 1915 and is buried at Carnoy Military Cemetery, France.
