Charles Davis was born in 1876 in Nottingham and was the son of Abraham a lawyer and Mary Davis née Collins of Earl Street, Carter Gate, Nottingham. His father Abraham was born in 1841 in Spondon and his mother Mary Collins was born in 1841 in Derby, they were married in 1863 their marriage was recorded in the Derby Registration District. Charles married Harriett May Sworder in 1897 their marriage was recorded in the Nottingham Registration District, they went on to have the following children, Frederick b1902 and Olive Annie Davis b1909, both were born in Nottingham In 1911 the family lived at 32 Finsbury Avenue Sneinton Dale Nottingham and were shown as Charles 35 yrs a coach painter, he is living with his wife Harriett May 36 yrs and their children, Frederick 9 yrs and Olive Annie 2 yrs.

Military History

Private Charles Davis served with the 3rd battalion Sherwood Foresters and was later transferred to (553632) 30th Labour Company, Labour Corps. He died on 5th January 1919 at 56 General Hospital in France and was buried at Etaples Military Cemetery grave reference LXXII.A18
