Charles Edward Coy was born in 1892 at Wexford, Ireland and was the son of Hugh a saw mill foreman and Mary Coy née Wilcox of 27 Douglas Road Derby Road Nottingham. His father Hugh was born in 1858 and his mother Mary Wilcox was born in 1860 at Costock , they were married in 1877 their marriage was recorded in the Bingham Registration District, they went on to have 17 children, their children listed on the 1901/1911 census were Henry b1878, Elizabeth b1882, Frederick b1884, Alice b1886, George b1887, Albert b1889, Lucy b1890, Charles b1892,Thomas b1893, Florence b1895, Gertrude b1897, Edith b1898, Mabel b1900 and Olive b1902 and Evelyn b1902. In the 1901 census the family are living at Paul Quay Wexford, Ireland In the 1911 census the family are living at 59 Glengarriff Road, Bantry, County Cork. His probate proven on 27th May 1916 at Tuan, Ireland shows him as Charles Coy of Wood Quay, Galway a Private Soldier who died 11th March 1916, left his effects of £175 to Hugh Coy sawmill foreman (father)

Private Charles Edward Coy enlisted at Galway Ireland and served with the 3rd battalion Grenadier Guards, he died of wounds on 11th March 1916 and is buried in Calais Southern Cemetery, Plot B Row 4 grave 7
