Family history

John Corbett was born in 1882 at Sneinton, Nottingham, he was the son of Thomas a frame work knitter and the late Louisa Corbett née Harriman and the brother of Edith, Annie and Eileen Corbett. they lived at 22 Hermit Street Sneinton Nottingham..

His father Thomas was born in 1862 at Nottingham, his mother Louisa Harriman was born in 1863 at Nottingham, she died in 1917 aged 54 yrs, they were married in 1883 at Nottingham, they had 4 children.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 22 Hewitt Street, Sneinton, Nottingham, Thomas 49 yrs is a frame work knitter, he is living with his wife Louisa 48 yrs and their children, Edith 23 yrs a machinist, Annie 18 yrs a jennier and Ellen 10 yrs a scholar.

Military history

Private John Corbett enlisted on 14th July 1910 at Nottingham, mobilised for war on 6th August 1914 he went to France on 11th November 1914 and was killed in action, 9th August 1915, in the attack on the German positions at Sanctuary Wood near Ypres, Belgium.

Commemorated: Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium. Panel 39 and 41.

He served for 5 yrs and 27 days.
