Guy Clement Edgar Granger was born in 1878 in Hucknall Torkard and was the son of the late William Charles and Sabina Granger. He married his wife Ethel May Heathcote in 1905 in Nottingham she had been born in Crich, Derbyshire in 1879, they went on to have two children Edwin Roy Granger born in 1908 at Kegworth Leicestershire and Francis b1912 birth recorded in the Shardlow Registration district. In the 1911 census the family are living at 2 Station Road Draycott Derbyshire and are shown as Guy Clement Edgar Granger 34 yrs a draper and hosier , he is living with his wife Ethel May 32 yrs and their son Edwin Roy 3 yrs, also living with them is his mother in law Ann Louise Heathcote 60 yrs Following his death the ministry of pension wrote to his widow Ethel informing her she would be receiving a pension of 25 shillings and 5 pence a week in respect of her and her two children with effect from 2nd November 1918. Ethel Granger later moved to 39 Hall Street Sherwood Nottingham.
Private Guy Clement Edgar Granger, enlisted on 7th June 1916, he was 39 yrs and 87 days old , he was a grocers porter. He was posted to he reserves the following day. He was mobilised for war on 6th March 1917 initially served with the service number 37840 in the Lincolnshire Regiment. He landed in France on 24th March 1917 and was transferred to the 43rd Northern Command Labour Centre, Labour Corps, on 14th May 1917. He was admitted to hospital with dementia on 7th March 1918, the No 8 stationary hospital in France and later transferred to the England where he was treated at Napsbury War Hospital, Colney, Hertfordshire. He died on 23rd May 1918 at the hospital, the cause of death was givne as 'pyscho nephritis ' His body was returned to his family in Nottingham and is buried in Carrington (St. John) Churchyard.
