Family History

Henry Edwards was born in 1881 in Oxfordshire and married his wife Sarah Ann Tomlinson (born 8th July 1879 Hucknall) in 1907, their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration District, they went on to have 5 children, Miriam born 5th October 1907 Hucknall, Fred Henry born 31st December 1909 Hucknall, Eric George born 8th December 1911 Hucknall Ada born 21st December 1914 Nottingham and Harold born 15th June 1917 Nottingham. In 1911 census the family were living at 30 Truman Street Hucknall Torkard Nottinghamshire and were shown as Henry 30 yrs a stoker at a glue works, he is living with his wife Sarah Ann 31 yrs and their children, Miriam 3 yrs and Fred Henry 1 yr. Following his death his wife Sarah was living at 32 Claremont Ave, Hazel Grove, Hucknall and she was informed that she would be receiving a pension of 37 shillings and 11 pence a week for herself and 5 children, to take effect from 12th May 1919.

Military History

Private Henry Edwards, enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Hucknall on 29th April 1918 , he gave his age as 37 yrs and 251 days, his address was 32 Claremont Ave, Hazel Grove, Hucknall and his next of kin was his wife Sarah Ann Edwards. He served with the 1st Battalion Leicestershire Regiment and embarked from Dover on 18th September 1918 landing the same day at Calais, he was posted to the 1/4th battalion Leicestershire Regiment on the same day and joined the battalion in the field on 23rd September 1918. He was killed in action on 10th October 1918 and is buried in Montbrehain British Cemetery, Aisne.
