Military History

Private Samuel Riley, enlisted in Nottingham and served with the 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire) Regiment,he was killed in action at Neuve Chapelle, on 12th March 1915 and is commemorated on Le Touret Memorial.(Panel 26 & 27)

Obituary published in the Nottingham Evening Post dated 12th March 1917 : - “RILEY. - In loving memory of Private Sam Riley, Sherwood Foresters, late of Sussex-square, killed in action, Neuve Chapelle, March 12th, 1915.
