John Granville Critchley was born on 7th August 1882 and was baptised in Skegby on 18th March 1900 and was the son of John and Mary Critchley. He married his wife Louisa Warner (born 1879 Sutton in Ashfield ) in 1907 in Mansfield they went on to have three daughters Ellen May b1910, Annie J b.1913 and Margaret L b.1915 In 1911 census they lived at West Hill Skegby near Mansfield Nottinghamshire John is shown as being 28 yrs and working as a colliery clerk.

Military History

Corporal John Granville Critchley enlisted at Hucknall and served with the 1st Bn Royal Scots Fusiliers he was killed in action on 26th September 1917 and his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cott Memorial
