He was the son of Harry and Sarah Hind. He married his wife Ada Corcoran at the Nottingham Registry Office on 8th July 1908, they lived at 9 Brunswick Square William Street Nottingham and had two children Rose born 9th June 1910 and Walter born 3rd May 1914 both were born in Nottingham. Following his death his widow Ada received a letter from the War Office dated 4th March 1918 informing her that she would be reciving a pension of 22 shillings and 11 pence a week in respect of her and her two children with effect from 4th March 1918.
Private Walter Hind, enlisted on 29th February 1904 in Nottingham, he was 20 yrs and 7 months of age and an iron polisher, he attested to serve for a short service of 3 yrs in the regulars and 9 yrs in the reserves. He was posted to the Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment. He was mobilised on 5th August 1914 following the outbreak of war. He was serving with 2nd Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire) Regiment, and had been on the Western Front since 19th September 1914 . He was reported missing on 1st July 1917 and later confirmed as killed in action on that date. He has no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Loos Memorial
