George Edgar Coleman was born in 1892 at Hucknall and was the son of Henry a coal miner and Elizabeth Coleman née Otter of 9b Carlingford Road, Hucknall Torkard Nottinghamshire. His father Henry was born in 1865 in Blidworth and his mother Elizabeth Otter was born in 1863 also in Blidworth, they were married in 1882 their marriage was recorded in the Mansfield Registration District, they went on to have 9 children sadly two of whom were to die in infancy or early childhood their surviving children were :Mary Elizabeth b1883 Blidworth, James Henry b1885 Hucknall, Arthur b1887 Hucknall, Harry b1889 Hucknall George Edgar b1892 Hucknall, Elizabeth b1893 Hucknall and Stephen Coleman b1895 Hucknall In 1911 census the family were living at 9b Carlingford Road Hucknall Torkard Nottinghamshire, they were shown as Henry 46 yrs a coal miner, he is living with his wife Elizabeth 48 yrs and their children, Harry 22 yrs a coal miner, Edgar 19 yrs a boot repairer, Elizabeth 18 yrs a tailors maker and Stephen 16 yrs a railway porter . He married his wife Lenora Whitehouse in 1916 in Mansfield and they lived at 24 Victoria Street Ironville Derbyshire

Military History

Private George Edgar Coleman enlisted at Mansfield and initially served with service number 426386 in the Labour Corps, he later transferred to the 17th battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers (NER Pioneers) he died of wounds on 4th April 1918 and is buried in Oxford Road, Cemetery, Belgium grave reference V.F.25.
