Family History

James was born in 1895 the son of Michael a bricklayer (died Nottingham 1902 aged 36) and Catherine Cusick (née Garvigan). His father was born in 1866 at Leeds, his mother Catherine Garvigan in 1869 at Nottingham. Married in 1889 at Nottingham, they had six children. James’s siblings were Mary b.1891, Sabina b.1893, Michael b.1895 (killed in action 9/8/1915), John b.1901 and Catherine b.1911. In 1901 they lived at 7 Snow Hill, in 1911 at 29 Glasshouse Street and later at 6 York Court, Beck Street, Millstone Lane (all Nottingham).

Rawalpindi War Cemetery Grave Reference: 2 A 21 James’s brother John Cusick also served: John Cusick enlisted on 13th October 1917, joining the Sherwood Foresters before transferring to 1st Battalion King's Own Royal Lancaster Regiment. He landed in France on 13th June 1918. Rejoining the Army post-war, he had a very mixed military record during his service with 1st Battalion Leicestershire Regiment.
