William Bicknell

William Bicknell was born in 1896 at Nottingham and was the son of George a bricklayers labourer and his first wife Sarah Bicknell née Tarrant. His father George was born in 1857 at Nottingham and his mother Sarah Tarrant was born in 1859 , they were married in 1875 at Radford, they went on to have the following children, Mary b1876, Alice b1881, George b1883, James b1885, Edward b1887, Leonard b1890, Harold b1893 and William b1895. His mother Sarah was to die in 1895 at Nottingham she was 35 yrs of age. His father re married Elizabeth Richardson in 1898 at Nottingham. In the 1911 census the family are living at 3 Bernard Terrace, Simpkin Street, Nottingham, they are shown as George 54 years a bricklayers labourer, he is living with his (second) wife Elizabeth 52 yrs and his two sons Harold 18 yrs a confectioners carter and William 15 years a dairyman William married his wife Lilly Emma Howlett in 1915 in Nottingham, they lived at 37 Kingston Street, Nottingham and had a daughter Katie Lillian born 24th June 1915. His widow Lilly was awarded a pension of 15 shillings which commenced on 12th February 1917 which was increased to 18 shillings and nine pence on 4th April 1917. Lily remarried Sidney Brown in 1917.
