Francis Joseph Bullin was born in 1896 at Hucknall and was the son of John a coal miner and Clara Bullin née Williams they lived at 5 Bolsover Street Hucknall Torkard Nottinghamshire. His father John was born in 1869 at Lenton and his mother Clara Williams was born in 1867 in Cannington, Somerset, they were married in 1890, their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration District, they went on to have 11 children, sadly one died in infancy their surviving children all born in Hucknall were, Alice b1891, Henry b1893, Annie b1895, Francis b1896, Bernard b1899, Ellen b1902, Stanley b1904, John b1906 , Winifred b1908 and Mary Bullin b1910. In the 1911 census the family were living at 5 Bolsover Street Hucknall Torkard Nottinghamshire and were shown as John 42 yrs a coal miner, he is living with his wife Clara 44 yrs and their children Alice 20 yrs a school teacher, Henry 18 yrs an apprentice tailor, Annie 16 yrs a tailoress, Francis 15 yrs a pony driver at a colliery, Bernard 12 yrs a scholar, Ellen 9 yrs a scholar, Stanley 7 yrs a scholar, John 5 yrs a scholar Winifred 3 yrs and Mary 1 yr.
Corporal Francis Joseph Bullin, enlisted at Nottingham he initially served with the 7th Dragoon Guards and later with the 1st Battalion Devonshire Regiment. He landed in France on 19th October 1915 and was killed in action on 7th November 1918. He is buried in Pont-sur-Sambre Communal Cemetery.
His brother Corporal Henry John Bullin enlisted at Hucknall and served with the 1/8th Bn Princess Louise's (Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders) He was killed in action on 21st July 1918 and is buried in Coeuvres-Et-Valsery communal cemetery, Aisne, France. His younger brother Bernard also served in the Sherwood Foresters during the Great War , he enlisted at Hucknall on 29th May 1916 and saw services on the Western Front, he survived and was demobilised on 29th November 1919.
