He was the son of Albert Edward and Margaret Amelia Wood and the brother of May Louisa, Albert, Dorothy Isabella, Helen, and Frederick William Wood. In 1911 they lived at 488 Meadow Lane and later at 13 Castle Street (both Sneinton Nottingham).
Private Arthur Edward Wood, served with 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire) Regiment, formerly of the Robin Hood Rifles, he was killed in action on 14th April 1917. He has no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
In memoriam published in the Nottingham Evening Post dated 14th April 1919:- “WOOD. – In loving memory of our dear son and brother, Arthur Edward, 13 Castle-street, Sneinton, Sherwood Foresters, killed in action April 14th, 1917.
