Family History

George Whittaker was born in 1895 in Barton in Fabis, Nottingham he was the son of Fred a photographer and shop keeper and Millicent Whittaker née Bullivant of 27 Storer Street Carlton Road Nottingham His father Fred was born in 1857 in Nottingham and his mother Millicent Bullivant was born in 1861 in Nottingham, they were married in 1883 in South Molton, Devon and went on to have 11 children one of whom died in infancy their children were Mabel b1884 South Molton, Horace b1885 Eastbourne, Walter b1887 Eastbourne Arthur b1889 Eastbourne, Alice b1889 Eastbourne, Amy b1893 Nottm, George b1895 Barton in Fabis, Grace b1896 Kirton Lindsay, Ruth b1897 Kirton Lindsay, Ada b1899 Masham Yorks, and William b1890 in Nottingham In the 1911 census the family are living at 27 Storer Street, Carlton and are shown as Millicent married 50yrs a shop keeper , she is living with her children Horace 25 yrs a carter, Alice 21 yrs a pattern girl, Amy no occupation, George 17 yrs a milk deliverer, Grace 15 yrs a lace measurer, Ruth a blouse finisher, Ada 12 yrs a scholar and William 10 yrs a scholar. Also in the 1911 census we find that Fred Whittaker 54 yrs is lodging at a lodging house 51 William Street, Scarborough , his occupation is that of photographer.

Military History

Rifleman George Whittaker, enlisted in Nottingham on 13th November 1914, he was 19 yrs 3 months old, he was a dairyman and was living at 27 Storer St, Carlton, Road, Nottingham , his father Fred was his next of kin of the same address. He was posted to the Winchester barracks th following day and served with the 7th Battalion King's Royal Rifle Corps. He landed in France on 21st May 1915 and was killed in action on 27th August 1917. He has no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot memorial.
